Library Media Services: Critical Literacy Skills

At the Board of Education meeting on April 6, 2017, Ms. Janet Seabold and Mrs. Theresa Petrov presented an update regarding the Library/Media Services program.  In an effort to service all students from grades K - 12 with one staff member in that department, the research protocol was developed for the 2015/2016 school year.  The library/media specialist worked with students and teachers in every grade level for approximately six weeks on a research project that was linked to grade and content area curriculum.  For the 2016/2017 school year, the element of critical literacy was added to the project.  The students use the critical literacy skills to analyze multiple viewpoints within the research, think about text from multiple perspectives, and examine relationships within the text in addition to other skills.  Information is very readily available to our students.  They require the skills to determine which information is relevant and the ability to compare information.  If you would like more information on critical literacy, please click on the link below.
