Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!!

Welcome to Shaler Academy where students are afforded a world class educational experience!

In each classroom, students encounter: technology instruction using Chromebooks, MacBooks, iPads and other equipment; exposure to cultural diversity through literature and writing using our new Mondo Bookshop, Good Habits Great Readers, and Being a Writer programs; and the development of critical thinking and inquiry based problem solving using Touch Math and Envisions Math. We are committed to monitoring progress and individualizing instruction to meet all students’ needs using resources such as: Rethink, IXL, Aimsweb, and Response to Intervention (RTI).

We will be implementing the Knowing Science curriculum in September 2017.  This curriculum is aligned to the NJ Student Learning Standards and provides students with the opportunity to:

  • Engage in exciting, developmentally-appropriate, ‘hands-on/minds-on’ activities that capitalize on their natural curiosity and encourage observation and exploration
  • Develop and practice skills of collaborative problem-solving, science literacy, and mathematical reasoning through differentiated guided inquiry
  • Participate in a curriculum that facilitates dynamic, scaffolded skill development and encourages connection--building through lessons focused on crosscutting concepts and scientific and engineering practices.

You can find out more about Knowing Science at http://www.knowingscience.com/ and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science can be found at: http://www.nj.gov/education/aps/cccs/science/

I welcome you to help make a genuine difference in the lives of our students.   Join me making our school great!! My door is always open and I am looking forward to working with all of you this school year.
