       My name is Ms. Ida-Marie Matarazzo, I have been a Special Education teacher for 14 years, all in Ridgefield, at Shaler Academy.  I taught my first 7 years as a Pre-School Autistic teacher. This experience allowed me to work with children from the ages of 3 to 5 years old.  The next 7 years has led me to my current position, which is a Self-Contained Autistic teacher. In this capacity, I work with students that range from ages 5 to 7 years old.  I feel strongly about teaching my students with and instilling the following core values;
    * Fairness
    * Respect
    * Caring
    * Kindness
    * Honesty
    * Responsibility
       I find these basic, core values to be paramount characteristics in myself and my students.  As an educator for many years, these core values have been the focus of many state mandated social/emotional growth standards for students.  I try to encourage each student to be independent, work on academic skills, build on their social/emotional skills, and work to the best of their ability each day.  Another belief of mine is that it is vital for school and home to work together to ensure the best education for my students.  If I make a child smile each day, I consider my day a success.
