Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Laura D'Amico

I have been teaching 6th grade Social Studies here at Slocum since September 2009.  I hold a BA in Elementary Education from William Paterson University and I am certified to teach grades Pre-K thru 8.  I also hold a Highly Qualified Certificate in Middle School Social Studies.   I was honored to be awarded The Bergen County Teacher Recognition Award in May 2014.   I started my career as a Kindergarten teacher and then moved onto teaching Second Grade.  When I had my first child, I became a stay at home mom for about 10 years. When my youngest started third grade, I started substituting and realized how much I missed the day to day interaction with the students and staff.

On a personal note,   I live in the town of Ridgefield, and  I am happily married to Joe D'Amico, a lifelong resident of Ridgefield. We have 2 beautiful children.  My son graduated from Ridgefield Memorial High School in June 2015, and is a graduate of Ramapo College.  My daughter graduated from Ridgefield Memorial High School in June 2018, and is a Senior at Scared Heart Universtiy. My husband and I have been very involved in the community, serving on school committees, and other commitees in town, such as the Fire Department and Recreation.   I am an active member of of both the Elementary PTA and the High School PTA, and served as REPTA president for 2 terms.   I have been the president of the Ridgefield Music Parents Organization for 8 years,  which helps to raise funds for the Music Program that serves Slocum and RMHS.   My family and I have a deep love for this community and enjoy helping out where we can.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, boating, traveling, and spending time with my family, and our beloved dog Tucker.   My family and I love Disney and enjoy visiting the parks as often as we can.

My goal is to make my classroom a welcoming environment, where all students feel comfortable.  I want students to love Social Studies and have an understanding of how events of the past effect our modern day lives.  My door is always open and I am happy to make myself available for extra help. Please contact me at  with any questions, concerns, or to set up extra help for your child.  You can also leave me a voice mail at 201-778-3461, and I will get back to you in a timely fashion.
