Ms. Jennifer Sommers

Since 2012, I have been an In-Class Support Teacher at Slocum Skewes and have been teaching in RMHS for the past two years.  I have had the opportunity to work collaboratively with the 9th grade General Education teachers.  Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in Tomorrows Children's Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center in the Research Department working with children with cancer and blood disorders.  The children in the hospital taught me what it was like to look at the world differently through their eyes.  It was then that I realized that I wanted to "pay it forward" and become a Special Education teacher.

My philosophy of education is "not just for school, but for life."  I want my students to be able to apply what they learn in school into their daily lives. Every day is a learning experience both for me and my students.  In the classroom, my students teach me the different ways that they solve various problems in all subject areas.  It is truly a pleasure to work with each student on an individual basis as well as in a whole group.
