Welcome to the Ridgefield Memorial High School Science Department!
The RMHS science department consists of five teachers who come a variety of different backgrounds. Mr. Zunick, the STEM chairperson, has taught at RMHS for 14 years and has a lot of experience teaching Biology as well as the recently retired Earth Science (Science 9) course. Mr. Michael Zunick played a large role in the 2013 science renovation project. Ms. Jazie Vega has been teaching at RMHS for 10 years and has a strong background in biology. She wrote the curriculum for the Anatomy & Physiology course when it was first offered. She is also the advisor for the yearbook committee. Ms. Julia Acosta has taught chemistry at RMHS for 6 years. She also has 12 years of teaching experiences in both Florida and in Union City. Dr. Ries came to the RMHS science department in 2014. He joined us with 13 years of experience in the Newark Public Schools. He brings a tremendous amount of experience in the areas of physics, engineering, and robotics. Finally, Mr. Oliver Islambouli, a former graduate of Ridgefield Memorial High School, is the newest member of the science department. He joins us with a strong background in physics education after recently earning his master's degree from Rutgers University.
As a department, our philosophy is to engage the students with technology and immerse them in the course content. We strive to push the students with high standards and expectations.
